How Will the “Gig Economy” Impact Procurement in 2017?

The procurement function has experienced first-hand business evolution across a variety of attributes, from technology and innovation to the emergence of data-driven strategies. Today’s procurement professionals have the opportunity to maximize their impact through a blend of various strategies and solutions that map directly to the strengths of the function.

What’s particularly interesting about today’s procurement function is that it often has the ability to impact global “game-changers” that come in the form of new software, new approaches, and, yes, even a revolutionary means of engaging much-needed talent. The “gig economy” is taking shape, and with it comes a major challenge for procurement leaders: adapt…or lose control. “Control,” in this sense, doesn’t just apply to mere maverick spending or an inability to force staff to utilize preferred staffing suppliers. No, it translates into the entire organization not only losing out on the talent that can spark innovation, growth, and development, but also putting the business in the precarious position of being at-risk for significant compliance risks.

Ardent Partners is excited to launch its fourth annual State of Contingent Workforce Managementresearch study. In years past, this distinctive research report highlighted why the “future of work” is already here, how procurement can work and collaborate with human resources, and the emergence of total workforce management/total talent management as next-generation programs.

The 2016-2017 edition of this study will discuss the best practices, strategies, and trends around adapting to a “new world of work,” a world in which the “gig economy” is the standard. The new research survey is available here, and all participants will receive a complimentary edition of the State of Contingent Workforce Management research report upon publication in October.

The insights of today’s procurement professionals are critically important in understanding how the “gig economy” will impact the years ahead. How will procurement functions utilize their supply management expertise to control the sourcing and engagement of talent? How will contingent workforce management (CWM) programs be structured in the months and years ahead? How can procurement become a true “conduit of control” in managing the real impact of the “gig economy”? The new State of Contingent Workforce Management research study will answer these questions…and much, much more (clickhere to participate).
